RACHEL BALZANO (she/her)

As a twenty-something living in Brooklyn, New York, I’ve prided myself on my ability to feel at home wherever my latest read is. I graduated in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in English with additional minors in Writing and the Honor Program.

I like the smell of books, dogs, Kristen Bell, writing stand-up sets I’ll never perform, and the Oxford comma. I’ve always identified as a voracious reader, a massive nerd, and a creative writer. I’ve written academic essays, creative non-fiction, short narratives, and a memoir. I’m currently in the process of revising my thesis and working on various other projects.

My focus in literature has been on 20th century American lit with a strong emphasis on modernist works. My senior year I wrote a thesis about F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald’s novels through the lens of geographic displacement nationally in addition to their marital relationship. I plan on pursuing a Master’s degree in English and perhaps, eventually, a Doctorate in English Literature with a focus on modernist literature.
